Julia Fiona Roberts born to Betty Lou Bredemus (mother) and Walter Grady Roberts on October 28, 1967. Roberts is the fourth Roberts generation living in Atlanta, beginning with her great-grandfather who was a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. Her father took an early interest in the theater. As studying at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force, and was stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi, he acted in a production together with Betty Lou Bredemus. In 1955, the couple married and their child Eric Anthony was born. Walter attended Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana following his departure from the Air Force in 1957. Walter became a member of Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio at the time they moved their family from Atlanta to Decatur in Georgia in 1960. Walter as well as Betty Lou financed their own production of the local children's Sunday matinee show called Bum Bum and His Buddies. Later that year they founded The Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for six years. They also had Lelisa Billingsley (also called Lisa) as well as Julia (also known as Julie) in this time.
